First, let me start by saying how brilliant this picture is. It is beautifully composed and instantly drew me in after seeing a small preview image of it! So great job.

The black and white is a really great effect. A picture like this would be a tad distracting (most likely) if there had been color to it; so great decision on that. Your depth of field is interesting- it almost seems like I'm down at the dog's level to look at it. Another great choice! Using interesting angling will always make a picture more interesting to look at.

One thing I would work on would be sharpening more of the dog's face. Having the background out of focus is good, but here only the dog's nose/mouth is in focus. Maybe try having the dog's whole head in focus next time.
